COVID-19 FAQs

Can I make an appointment now to get the rest of my belongings and move out, or grab some additional essential items?

The Oxford Board of Aldermen unanimously approved a “Stay-At-Home” resolution ordering all residents of Oxford to stay at home until April 30, and ordered many businesses to close for that same time period. University leadership strongly supports the city’s action, and took additional steps to restrict the number of university employees who will continue to come to campus to work during this emergency. Given the requirements of this order and the larger public health need to practice social distancing, we cannot accommodate any requests to access residence hall rooms at this time. Our residence halls are locked, and your belongings are safe and secure in your room and can remain there.

We plan to open an appointment system at a future date for you to schedule a time to gain access to your residence hall to retrieve your belongings. However, given the fluid nature of this evolving pandemic, we cannot say at this time when that will occur. Public health considerations will be the driving factor in determining when it is safe to open the halls for your return.

Where are students living on campus who have been approved for alternative housing?

Student Housing is using Residence Hall 2, Residence Hall 3, Luckyday Residential College, Residential College South, Northgate, and Campus Walk for those students approved for alternative housing. Limited staff will be available. Signs will be posted providing residents with instructions on how to contact Student Housing staff.

What additional measures are being taken to ensure the halls are clean and disinfected?

The Department of Student Housing has increased the cleaning of all campus housing facilities.  As of Friday, March 13, all campus housing buildings were cleaned and disinfected (all touchpoints, flat surfaces and public restrooms) in preparation for the return of the students on March 15.  We implemented an increased and enhanced cleaning schedule for all public areas within Student Housing. All public areas will be cleaned and disinfected every 1-2 hours depending on the student traffic for that area. After buildings closed on March 18 at 5:00 pm, the enhanced cleaning and disinfecting of all empty buildings continued. All open front desks are being stocked with disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer.

Will summer housing be available?

Summer Housing will not be offered for 2020 including May Intersession, Summer First Term, Summer Second Term, and August Intersession.

Is Student Housing planning to hire student staff (CAs and CDAs) for Fall 2020?

Currently, we are hiring for Fall 2020. If this changes because of the circumstances surrounding COVID-19, we will update the Student Housing website with more information once it becomes available.
